painting with wide array of colors dripping around text that says "every day I have to choose to pour into myself." The words "pour into myself" are large block letters in white negative space.

It is hard to live relationally in a society and institution that forgets about interconnectedness. I say “forgets” because we are in a settler colonial society that has intentionally forgotten about interconnectedness and the way it has been violently suppressed.

Pouring into ourselves–and being poured into by others–is a hard-won lesson. The participants were on different journeys toward making this choice. Some were already practicing it; some were practicing it but it never seemed to be enough to feel refueled. Others struggled to insist in isolation that interconnectedness is mutual; to give life is also to be breathed into.

What do you do if you are so depleted that it will take every possible resource in existence to renew your body, mind, and spirit? What if the depletion makes your body sick?

Every day. Choose. Love yourself too, beloved.
